Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health Receives Grant

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and United Health Foundation (UHF) are awarding a total of $700,000 in community health grants to nine National Business Coalition on Health (NBCH) member coalitions, including Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition (GPBCH), a PHMC program. GPBCH is a membership organization open to employers located in, or with a significant employed population in, the Greater Philadelphia region that helps members to work with health plans, health care providers and other system stakeholders to improve the value of health benefit spending for members by improving health care quality and safety and reducing health care costs.The awards will provide the coalition communities with resources to assess their key health challenges and plan or implement efforts to solve them. The Pew Charitable Trusts Announces Grants to PHMC & Affiliates

On May 6, The Pew Charitable Trusts announced that it will provide $8.46 million over the next three years to 46 Philadelphia-area organizations serving some of the region's most disadvantaged children and their families. Public Health Management Corporation received a $187,000 grant to continue support to assess homeless children at risk of developmental delay and link them to needed services. Additionally, two PHMC affiliate, Joseph J. Peters Institute (JJPI) and Turning Points for Children (TPC) received grants of $212,000 and $180,000 respectively. The grant for JJPI will support expanded services to children and adolescent survivors of sexual abuse, while the TPC grant will support at-risk students in Philadelphia, as part of its Middle School – Families and Schools Together (FAST) programming. |

On April 25, a story on Yahoo Finance titled "Local Community Center Presents Innovations on the Fight against Hunger" featured data from PHMC's Community Health Data Base (CHDB). The article documented the efforts of AARP to fight hunger among older adults. PHMC's CHDB survey, Household Health Survey, captures data from over 10,000 households in Southeastern Pennsylvania every two years. Click here to read the Yahoo story in full. |
Students Run Philly Style Featured on CBS Philly and Fox News

On May 5, thousands of runners will flood Broad Street for the annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run. This year, to commemorate the victims of the Boston marathon bombings, runners from Students Run Philly Style, a program of PHMC affiliate, National Nursing Centers Consortium will be wearing red socks.
