Several PHMC clients moved into new homes at the newly reopened Kings Highway Apartments, an affordable housing community in the Frankford Avenue Corridor. This development will provide long term, high-quality, affordable housing for families who have experienced homelessness.
PHMC celebrated with clients and their families in the ACTS Emergency Shelter and Continuum of Care Family Rapid Rehousing programs, at a ribbon-cutting for the building. "This is my home," said Claudia, a mother of three. "I thought I would never have a home, and now I have my home." Learn more about Claudia’s story in CBS’ feature on the Kings Highway Apartments reopening.
The ACTS Emergency Shelter program and the Continuum of Care Family Rapid Rehousing program are part of PHMC’s continuum of housing services, designed to support individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Housing coordinators support families with a range of services that address immediate needs while promoting long-term stability. Programming integrates health, social services and case management; it includes rental counseling and mediation, credit counseling and repair, resume development, childcare systems and public benefits navigation, as well as connections to utility assistance, legal services, transportation, and employment opportunities.
The renovation of Kings Highway Apartments – which features new kitchens, bathrooms and private yards — is part of a collaborative effort by Odin Properties, the Philadelphia Housing Authority, the Office of Homeless Services, the Department of Behavioral Health and the Division of Housing and Community Development.
